REINHA.com – According to the Journal of the Americn Medical Association, the human body temperature for adults is 36.7 degree celsius. If you use the approximate range, the normal temperature of an adult is at 36.1 to 37.2 degrees celsius. This average body temperature limit, makes a benchmark whether someone has a fever or not.

If the body temperature rises rapidly to 41 degrees celsius in 10 to 15 minutes until the body can not release the sweat again, this is known as a heat stroke. Heat stroke is one of the problems caused by heat and is considered as an emergency. Heat stroke make your body can not control the increases of your body temperature because of a hot weather. This is because heat stroke can cause damage to the brain and internal organs that can even cause death.

The symptoms that occur when a person experiences heat stroke are :

  1. Dizzy
  2. Severe headache
  3. The body feels hot and the skin looks dry
  4. Body temperature can reach 40 degree celsius
  5. Sweat less
  6. Behaviour changing, like confused or disoriented
  7. Weakness in the muscles or feels cramps
  8. Nausea and vomiting
  9. Heart palpitations
  10. Fast and shallow breathing
  11. Seizures
  12. Unconsciusness or coma

By knowing the symptoms above, the treatment that we can do are :

  1. Move the person who is affected by heat stroke to a cool place
  2. Undressing clothes that cover the body
  3. Cooling the body by putting it in a bathtub filled with cold water, using a fan while compressing the whole body with a wet towel or cool pack on the head, neck, armpits, and folds of the thigh
  4. Always check the temperature
  5. Do the above method until the body temperature drops to 38 degrees celsius
  6. Immediately contact the doctor to get the advanced therapy
    Heat stroke can be prevented by :
  7. Wear a thin shirt during the summer
  8. Drink plenty of water to prevent dehydration
  9. Protect the skin by using a sun block or lotion that has SPF
  10. Avoid too much outdoor activities
