Until now there is still no cause for myopia. But experts believe that there are two things that make a person at risk of experiencing myopia :

  1. Heredity
Children with parents who suffer from nearsightedness have a higher risk of having the same thing.
  2. Enviromental Influences
The enviromental influences like often read while lying down, watching TV in close range, do activity in front of a laptop for a long time, and playing gadgets for too long.

Generally, the conditions of nearsightedness starts slowly and gradually worsens and can be suffered from children to adults. Symptoms or sign that are felt such as, visions becomes blurry if you see something far away, the eyes must be squinted to maximize long-distance vision, and experience headaches due to the eyes being too forced to see objects far away.

If this condition is not handled quickly and well, there will be many complications in the future, such as :

  1. Retinal Detachment
Eye abnormalities due to detachment of the inner lining of the retina often occur due to increased age and high myopia.
  2. Strabismus
Abnormalities in the position of the eyeball or squint. There are those who experience squinting inward (esotropia) as a result of excessive activity in one or more eye muscle tone which has a function to converge. And squinting out (extropia) as a result of weakening activity in one or more tone of eye muscles that has a function to converge.
  3. Amblyopia (Lazy eye)
Amblyopia used when the vision of one eyes is reduced because it fails to work properly with the brain. Occurs in high myopia where there is a failure of shadow formation, so the shadow is not focused on each eye.
  4. Glaucoma
There is an increase of the eyeball pressure so that the distance between the lens of the eye and the retina farther away. Because the distance is getting farther away, the shadow of a falling object is not right in front of the retina.

What we can do to treat this eye refractive disorder are by using glasses, and contact lenses that are adjusted to how high or low your myopia. However, if you don’t want to use both, doing eye surgery can also be used as a consideration. Do prevention as early as possible, such as paying attention to existing risk factors that can lead to myopia.
